Shampoo & Insurance

Let me start this out by saying that I am pretty lucky to still have my natural hair color, even at the age of “early 40’s”.  I’m afraid to color it, thanks to glaring looks from my dad when I was younger when I asked if I could. As I have said before, I should have listened to him more when growing up.woman getting hair shampooed

Oh!  Back to my hair.  A couple of years ago, I used a friend’s shampoo and conditioner and it smelled so good!  Just like peaches! I decided that I knew what I was doing and the next time I needed shampoo, instead of getting it from my trusted stylist, I picked out some that came in a pretty yellow bottle and told me that my hair would now smell like sunshine.  It was summer, so why not, right? Yes, my hair felt a bit dry, but I was spending so much time at the beach and Crab Island that I assumed it was due to the salt and sun.

Since I was feeling a bit overconfident, buying new shampoo every couple months and picking out new scents, I thought I could skip driving the 30 minutes to my stylist and make an appointment with a nearby salon that offered great prices for the novice stylists.  Maybe this could be fun! No, no it wasn’t. The novices didn’t seem to understand what my hair needed. After a few unsuccessful attempts, and 8 months without a haircut (except for trimming my own bangs and that was a disaster), I decided to let another novice cut my hair before taking a trip for my “early 40’s” birthday.  I showed him pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like (of what my trusted stylist had done previously that I loved) and I listened to him ramble away while he cut. And cut. And cut some more. He took my hair that was almost down to the middle of my back and it ended up above my shoulders!

I hated my hair for the next five months while it grew back out (with a weird angle).  I called my previous stylist and made an appointment for three weeks later. While time dragged on, I wore it in a bun quite often, so that I wouldn’t make the fatal mistake of trimming my own bangs.  Finally, the day came for me to face this woman that would become a miracle worker. She didn’t need photos of what I wanted, she didn’t need to be reminded of my cowlick or that my hair has a natural curl to it; she was an expert, so she knew.  When she was done, I’m sure my eyes were a bit misty. My hair looked like it was supposed to!!! I promised to never leave her again and thanked her profusely. Oh! I also bought the good shampoo and conditioner.

So, how does this relate to insurance?

This is where you are wondering, “How in the world does a good stylist and shampoo relate to insurance?”  Well for women, we get it! How often do you see newcomers post on a local Facebook page asking for a good hair stylist?  So, if we are wanting an expert on our hair and are willing to pay A LOT of money for something that will ultimately grow back, why do so many people go with the cheapest insurance for their home or autos which can be completely destroyed?

Although we can see the results of a haircut immediately, we will not know the value of an insurance company until claim time. My suggestion to you ~ go with an agent that has experience and knows what they are doing. Don’t bounce around looking for the least expensive price or that is close to your home.  An experienced agent knows that while you are concerned with the final premium, you also deserve quality. Look for the agent that is more concerned with what you need, even before you know that you need it. I would hate for you to stare at your policy in shock after a claim the way I did after my awful haircuts.

Update on my hair – five weeks later, I am still loving the cut and my hair feels so soft and even styles better, thanks to my stylist, Jeanine and Joico!
